Studying abroad in Israel was one of the best decisions I could have made for my spiritual life.
Studying abroad in Israel was one of the best decisions I could have made for my spiritual life. I studied biology in the United States and had the opportunity in 2014 to study abroad for 10 weeks and take some history classes for credits towards my degree. My original intention was to study in Istanbul, Turkey. However, right before I had to check the box to select the location, the Lord touched me and told me to put down Jerusalem as my first choice. Upon arriving in Jerusalem, I felt blessed by the Lord immediately. I was living in an area where many saints were living, and I had the privilege of being able to meet with them nearly every day.
Not only was my view of the Body of Christ greatly enlarged, but my thoughts and consideration in reading the Word have also been changed. Many of the historical sites that you visit in Israel enrich your understanding of the written Word. Just seeing the land of Israel adds another dimension to what is written in His Word that cannot be received without being in Israel. But most importantly, I was able to fully appreciate and realize that we serve a LIVING God and are so blessed to know the ministry of this age, in knowing that we have a human spirit.
The atmosphere that you are exposed to in Israel is saturated with so much dead religion. But this atmosphere serves as a sharp contrast to Christ and the church. Many people outwardly participate in many religious activities, yet you realize that they do not have the inward reality that we have. We have the very Triune God in our being and this living One wants to fill us and permeate our being until we are just like Him in life and in nature. My time in Israel has made me treasure all the saints so much more and I feel truly blessed by the Lord for His leading in bringing me to Israel.
