I am really glad that I had the chance not only to visit Israel but also to see the Lord’s move. After spending one semester here, I feel that this age is coming to an end.
I am a student of the National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) in Taiwan. In the last semester of my senior year I went to Israel for exchange at the Tel Aviv University (TAU). Even though I was only in Israel for one semester, I can say that Israel is definitely a country worth visiting. It may be a small country but it has a rich history dating back to the oldest times with various Biblical sites.
During my time in Israel I lived in Tel Aviv, nearby TAU. Tel Aviv is a very modern international city situated beside the Mediterranean Sea. I often went for a run along the beach, enjoying it while watching the sunset. Since Tel Aviv is a new city there is a lot of green space, making it very comfortable. There is also a Carmel Market in which you can taste various rich produce of the good land as mentioned in the Bible.
There are many Biblical locations in Israel. Only by visiting these sites will you be able to fully grasp the background to the events that occurred there. For example, one time I went with a family and spent one night in a tent in the wilderness. That left me with a deep impression of the hardship the Israelites experienced when they were wandering in the wilderness. In addition, before going to Israel I only knew the names of the Biblical sites, but not their location. After four months of living there, now I can remember not only their location but also how each site looks like.
The Biblical sites may be helpful to our understanding of the Bible, but still they are just part of the old creation. For me, the thing which I treasure most is to have the opportunity to fellowship with saints living in Israel. I was really encouraged to know that the Lord’s testimony is in this country. Although the number are few, but the testimony is shining and fragrant. I seized every opportunity to meet with the saints and praise His name.
Israel is the very center of the Bible and the Lord’s move. I am really glad that I had the chance not only to visit Israel but also to see the Lord’s move. After spending one semester here, I feel that this age is coming to an end.
Millions of Christians want to stay in Israel, but because of the limitation of visa, they are only able to go for a short term tour. They do not have the chance as I did to have much fellowships and prayers with the saints. As a student, getting a visa is easier and opportunities like these do not come by easily. I believe it is these experiences that is the most precious and will last unto eternity.
