“Having been in Israel for over two years, I can testify the riches of the Body of Christ.”
The first time my husband fellowshipped with me about going to Israel to study, all that came to my mind were pictures of dusty desert wind and choking fumes of gun powder. I immediately said no to this suggestion. Our child was so young, how could we bring her to such kind of place to suffer? But my husband is very burdened for Israel and for learning Hebrew. He received admission from the school, and the Lord also confirmed His leading in the environment. So in the summer of 2014, we together with our child came to Israel.
When we arrived, I discovered that Israel is completely different from what I imagined. It is a very developed and advanced country, nothing like the images of war-stricken areas. The cost of living is high, especially in Jerusalem. Rental cost is shockingly high. For the sake of our child, we found a place close to the school, and this became a heavy financial burden. As a result, we have to cook and eat at home. We can get the ingredients from the traditional local market. In fact, the cost of buying ingredients is relatively low, and I start to learn to become a wise “minister” of the household. I plan each purchasing in detail, identifying places with the largest discount. In the end, we can manage to feed the whole family with about US$200. However, other daily household items like clothes, shoes, diapers remain expensive, as there is a heavy value-added tax.
The weather in Israel is hot and dry. In the summer, the temperature can reach up to 40°C. At the beginning, our child could not get used to the weather, and had rashes all over the body. I felt anxious, as we did not know the place well and which doctor to turn to. But praise the Lord for the saints in the Body. Through fellowship and His wonderful leading, as well as the care and petition of the saints, the rashes slowly faded away. Because of the support from the saints, I also stopped having anxious thoughts.
Having been in Israel for over two years, I can testify the riches of the Body of Christ. My husband has been busy with his studies, so most of the time I need to take care of the child by myself. At times, I feel a lot of pressure and start missing home. Yet, whenever I face such situation, I will receive timely supply from the members. Some sisters will call to have morning revival with me, and I receive the watering of the Word of the Lord. Although the outside environment remains the same, I have peace and joy from within.
“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope in the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13)
